How does Poseidon WAX compare to Waters Oasis® WAX cartridges for PFAS analysis?

Poseidon WAX cartridges feature the same tertiary amine modified polymeric backbone and mixed-mode weak anion exchange mechanism as Waters Oasis® WAX. They provide equivalent recovery and precision for short- and long-chain PFAS compounds under EPA Method 533 and EPA Draft Method 1633, with low blank background levels.

What is the typical protocol for eluting strong acids from WAX SPE cartridges?

Because WAX features weak anion exchange groups (pKa ~ 9), strong acidic compounds (like sulfonic acids) are retained under neutral or acidic conditions. To elute them, you neutralize the positive charge on the sorbent by raising the pH using a basic elution solvent, typically Methanol containing 2% to 5% Ammonium Hydroxide (NH₄OH).

When should I choose WAX over MAX or HLB cartridges?

Choose WAX when your target compounds are strong acids (pKa < 1, such as sulfonic acids, perfluorinated acids, or organophosphates) that bind too strongly to strong anion exchangers (MAX) and cannot be easily eluted. Choose HLB for general neutral/acidic/basic screening, and MAX for weak acids (carboxylates).

Can I get free samples of WAX cartridges for method validation?

Yes! We offer free evaluation sample packs (including 5–10 cartridges) for accredited testing laboratories, CROs, and academic research labs. Fill out the “Request Free Sample Kit” form above to receive your free box.
